Sleep Training Twins who Share a RoomThis week’s question comes from Trina and she writes:

I have boy twins who share a room but not the same cot. They are six months old and they wake up two to four times a night. I just do not know what to do. I feel like I cannot let them cry because one is going to wake up the other one.” Read more

Why is my Baby Not Sleeping?

Is your baby not sleeping?

This week’s question comes from Angel. She writes:

“Help! My baby’’s one year old and does not sleep. He has a one hour nap in the morning, but then doesn’’t have another one all day. He plays all day and into the evening, and doesn’’t usually go to sleep until midnight. Then wakes up about two-ish — sometimes he’’ll settle and sometimes he doesn’’t. If he does, he’’s up for the day at five a.m. and that’s it! So in 24 hours, he sleeps five hours. Is there something wrong with him… or is something wrong with me?Read more

Thought about using Melatonin?

For overtired parents who can’t seem to get their kids on a healthy sleep schedule, the promise of a magic pill can be pretty enticing.

But it seems to me that more and more doctors and parents are turning to melatonin as a Band-Aid for sleep issues with their children. I get emails every day from people telling me they are giving their babies melatonin to help them fall asleep at night, and I have serious concerns about this. Read more

Get Your Newborn to sleep longer… (1)Encouraging a newborn to sleep longer

Fiona has been working with me for the benefit of her one month old. She has a routine in place. She’s been putting him in the cot awake, a little bit drowsy, but mostly awake, she says. Lots of nights, he is going a four or five hour stretch, but then every night or two, he’ll only do an hour and a half.

She’s wondering how can she encourage him to sleep four or five hours every night, instead of occasionally. Well, first of all, good for you for getting this started early. Read more

Promote sleep tonightThis very night you can promote sleep in your child’s room

Being a parent of young kids usually comes with having a house-full of accessories. In pioneer days, babies would have had a cradle and maybe a rattle if they were really lucky. These days, a newborn comes home from the hospital to a crib, a playpen, a swing, a high chair, talking mobiles, stuffed animals that sing and dance… the list goes on.

There are so many fun products on the market that can entertain our kids, interact with them and make them laugh.

Which is exactly why they shouldn’t be kept in the bedroom when the children are trying to fall asleep. Read more

Baby Winkz Consultancy -Establishing newborn sleep patternsWelcoming a newborn into your family is one of the most joyous, life-changing experiences you’ll ever enjoy. Unfortunately, it also means you can kiss goodbye to a good night’s sleep for the next few months! Newborns rarely sleep more than two to three hours at a time as their tiny bellies aren’t big enough to hold enough milk to keep them sleeping for longer than that. Read more

Baby Winkz Consultancy - Baby Wont sleepAnswer The Question For Mummy…

This is a question I often asked my first born daughter when she was a toddler. I asked it in a sweet voice, I asked it in a pleading voice, I asked it in an angry voice, but no matter how many times I asked, she never gave me the answer.

I can remember the night— and some of you will know exactly what I’m talking about— when I felt like I could not take it anymore. My daughter just would not stay asleep and I had hit rock bottom, exhausted from waking up multiple times every night and having to soothe her back to sleep. My husband found me at 3:00am in the morning crying away in our living room… my baby won’t sleep Read more

BabyWinkz Consultancy - Rock a bye babyHmmmm does this sound familiar…

It’s the middle of the night. You’re in a dark living room and singing “Rock a bye baby…” while you’re rocking your baby in your arms. You’re exhausted, but you’re also terrified to put him down for fear that the second his sweet little head touches the pillow, his eyes will fly open and you’ll have to start all over again. Read more
